For many women, the thought of another heavy flow menstrual cycle can drag you down. How many times do you think, “Why can’t there just be a switch to turn off the faucet?” Well, there can be that very thing.

Novasure or endometrial ablation is a procedure that is done in the office. This is really a simple procedure that has relatively few side effects or complications.  With endometrial ablation, we are treating the symptom of heavy bleeding with a procedure that will obtain over 50% amenorrhea. That simplky means NO MORE PERIODS.

It usually takes years and years of hormone imbalance, fibroids, endometriosis or adenomyosis, or a myriad of other conditions that leads to this heavy bleeding. In this case, there is NOTHING that we can do that will make the problem go away except for hormone therapy, such as high dose birth control pills, or surgical evaluation.

Years ago, this would have treated with a hysterectomy. Back in the day, this would have been a 3 day stay at the hospital, 6 weeks or more off from surgery, and a long painful recovery. Thank the good Lord, we now have the technology that has revolutionized women’s health. We can actually do a procedure that will remove the lining of the uterus in a very minimal fashion. The procedure, either one, will take less than 10 minutes. The good news, it can be done in the office OR at the hospital!

So, if you or someone you love, has a problem of disruptive or heavy menstrual cycles, you have options. You can either see your gynecologist about this OR, better yet, you can schedule your appointment with Dr. Corney and we can discuss your personal situation and the options that are available to you.
